IND vs SA: Twitter reacts after veteran Dinesh Karthik provides ‘finishing touch’ to India’s innings

Dinesh Karthik turned back the clock to finalize the Indian innings in the second T20I against South Africa. Karthik scored 30 not out in 21 balls India At 148/6 in 20 overs. The experienced wicket-keeper batsman came out to bat in a tough phase when India were losing wickets at regular intervals. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 40 by Dwayne Pretorius which gave Karthik a way to bat but it was not an easy ride for him.

Karthik made a slow start and was on 9 off 16 balls but he decided to shift gears in the final over to hit Anrich Nortje for some boundaries. He chased it down in the last over where he hit Pretorius for a couple of sixes. Karthik scored 21 runs in the last five balls. Harshal Patel (12 not out in nine balls) gave them a good company as the duo scored 36 runs in the last three overs to improve the stitching of the Indian run-rate to give them some relief.

Fans on Twitter were excited after veteran Kartik displayed his class in Indian colors once again.

Karthik made a comeback to the Indian colors after almost three years in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. The 37-year-old scored 330 runs at a strike rate of 183.33. In the first match, Karthik did not get many deliveries to show his talent as he remained unbeaten on 2 balls while facing 1 ball.

Coming to bat on a challenging track, the Indian batsmen struggled except for a short second wicket partnership of 45 runs between Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. Opening the bowling, Kagiso Rabada started early and gave success in his first over itself.

He brilliantly set up Ruturaj Gaikwad (1) with a barrage of short balls and combined a fuller to cleverly defraud the opener to 4-0-15-1, which included 13 dot balls.

Iyer (40) was India’s top scorer while Kishan provided some early spark (34 off 21 balls) but the hosts lost momentum in the middle overs on a two-paced track.

Enrique Nortje was the bowler’s choice for the Proteas, who had two scalps in his kitty.
