IND vs SA: ‘KL Rahul out of ideas’ – Sunil Gavaskar’s Frank Assessment of New India Captain

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has asked some serious questions regarding the captaincy of KL Rahul. Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar said the new India skipper looked out of ideas while South Africa rode on a 150-plus stand between skipper Temba Bavuma and Rassi van der Dussen to pile on the runs. He said that Venkatesh Iyer could have moved his hand as the frontline seamer was struggling to bowl against both. Meanwhile, he also said that these are the “early days” of his captaincy career.

“Well, when there is a partnership, sometimes the captain runs out of ideas. I think this is what happened. It was a very good pitch to bat on. The ball was coming on the bat quite well, you can play through the line,” Gavaskar said.

“During that partnership, it looked like he had run out of ideas. KL Rahul didn’t know where to go. When you have two of the most experienced death overs bowlers in Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar, you have They have to be kept till the last 5-6 overs. So you can really stop the opposition from running away with big scores.”

“But, these are the early days of his captaincy and things may change, let’s hope for Indian cricket that things change in the next few days,” he added.

talking points: India’s struggle continues due to middle order crisis

Speaking on KL Rahul’s batting, he suggested the elegant right-hander to bat at the top, and should demote himself when Rohit Sharma comes back as an opener. KL had a field day as he scored 12 runs before being ruled out by part-timer Aiden Markram.

“No when Rohit is not around. He is in the team as an opener in all formats of the game. I don’t think he should think of batting himself at No 4 or 5. At the top, he can also lead from the front.”
