IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma breaks Virat Kohli’s T20I record; Also became the first Indian to hit 150 sixes

Team India’s new T20I captain Rohit Sharma continued his stellar form in the shortest format of the game with a scintillating half-century against New Zealand to guide his team to a clinical victory on Sunday. Rohit laid the foundation for India’s 73-run victory with a 31-ball 56 to clean sweep the Kiwis. The flamboyant opener broke Virat Kohli’s big record in T20Is during his scintillating innings.

He has now surpassed Virat Kohli’s tally of most 50-plus scores in T20Is. Rohit has scored 25 half-centuries and 5 centuries in the shortest format of the game, while Kohli is now one of them with 29 half-centuries.

Rohit is also the only player to score five centuries in T20I cricket which makes him one of the fiercest batsmen in the shortest format. His 56-run knock on Sunday had 5 fours and 3 sixes to help him achieve another milestone. With three sixes, Rohit has now hit 150 sixes in the shortest format as he has become the first Indian to achieve the feat. The 34-year-old is second only to Martin Guptill in the list of most sixes in T20Is – 161

However, Rohit failed to surpass Kohli’s highest number of runs by an Indian in T20I cricket. He is now 31 runs behind the former India T20I captain. Guptill is at the top of the tally as he achieved the feat in the same series during the second T20I.
