IND Vs NZ: Rohit Sharma appointed as India’s T20 captain, KL Rahul named vice-captain

New Delhi: BCCI has announced that Rohit Sharma will take over as the captain of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. Announcing the squad for the India vs New Zealand series, the BCCI on Tuesday also appointed KL Rahul as the vice-captain.

The decision comes after Virat Kohli announced his intention to step down from the captain’s post at the end of the event ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has been rested for the series against New Zealand and Hardik Pandya has been dropped. Uncapped fast bowlers Harshal Patel and Venkatesh Iyer have been included in India’s T20 squad.

Pandya has been dropped from the team after his poor performance during the T20 World Cup.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and spinner Ravindra Jadeja have also been rested for the short series.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal makes his way into the squad while Mohammad Siraj, who has played a few T20Is in the past, is also in the mix.

Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar, who were in T20 World Cup reserve, are now in the main squad.

India will play 3 T20 matches against New Zealand from November 17.
