India vs England Women: The Indian women’s cricket team has lost the ODI series against England. England beat India by five wickets in the second ODI to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Captain Mithali Raj’s half-century and Shefali Verma’s quick innings went in vain in front of Kate Cross’s brilliant bowling. Sophie also contributed significantly in scoring a half-century in England’s victory.
Mithali Raj scored 59 runs in 92 balls with the help of seven fours, while opener Shefali Verma contributed 44 runs in 55 balls. But the rest of the team’s performance in the batting department was disappointing and the team could only score 221 runs in 50 overs. Out.
England also stumbled in front of the easy target and after 28.5 overs their score was 133 for five. Sophie scored 73 runs while Katherine Brunt made 33 runs for the sixth wicket with an unbroken partnership of 92 runs. Both these players gave victory to the team with 15 balls remaining. England scored 225 for five in 47.3 overs.
Mithali Raj did not come for fielding
Opener Lauren Winfield Hill contributed 42 runs in 57 balls and Amy Allen Jones contributed 28 runs in 34 balls. Poonam Yadav took two wickets for 63 runs for India. Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey and Sneh Rana took a wicket each.
Mithali did not take the field due to neck pain and was replaced by vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur. In the first ODI played in Bristol, England won by eight wickets. The third ODI will be played in Worcester on 3 July followed by a series of three T20 Internationals. The only Test played between the two teams ended in a draw.
