India got off to the right start after Deepak Chahar sent back Najmul Hossain Shanto on the very first ball of the innings as the Bangladeshi opener got Rohit Sharma caught behind.

Anamul Haque was the second wicket to fall as Washington Sundar was hit on the pads by Mohammad Siraj at mid-wicket in the last over of the first powerplay.

Liton was going well and had put on a good partnership with Shakib for the third wicket, but Sundar came back with the ball to trouble him with his off-spin. The opener had tickled the bust-spinning all out to keeper KL Rahul. Captain Liton scored 41 runs in 63 balls with the help of three fours and a six.

Soon after Sundar struck again with the help of a brilliant ctahc from Virat Kogli to send back Shakib who was also looking to take his team to victory with the bat.

Mahmudullah was trapped by Shardul Thakur with a sharp incoming delivery as Mushfiqur Rahim soon followed his compatriot back to the dressing room after he was bowled by Siraj.

Debutant Kuldeep Sen removed Afif Hossain and Ebadot Hossain in the 39th over to end Bangladesh’s chase.

In the very next over, Siraj got Hasan Mahmood out lbw but Mehdi Hasan Miraj proved his mettle with the bat.

Mehdi scored 38 off 39 balls and along with Mustafizur Rahman, who scored 10 off 11 balls, added 50 runs for the last wicket to take Bangladesh home.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan led Bangladesh’s bowling attack with five wickets to bundle out India for 186 runs.

KL Rahul managed to keep the visitors in the game with a 70-ball 73, while his partners at the other end fell at regular intervals as Bangladesh elected to start the three-match series.

All-rounder Shakib, who bowls left-arm spin, claimed his fourth five-wicket haul with an impressive 5-36, which included key wickets of returnee Rohit Sharma (27) and Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli (nine).

Fast bowler Ebadat Hossain, playing the role of key support, took four wickets and wrapped up the Indian innings in 41.2 overs.

It was Shakib’s double whammy that took the wind out of India’s batting.

He first bowled Rohit on the second ball of his opening over, before hitting Kohli to extra cover two balls later to take a brilliant one-handed catch by skipper Liton Das.

Shreyas Iyer and Rahul, who came into the team as wicketkeeper-batsman after regular wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the series due to injury, attempted to rebuild with a 43-run stand.

Abadot broke down his defence, getting Iyer caught behind for 24 as India slumped to 92-4 in 20 overs.

Rahul stood firm and put on 60 runs with Washington Sundar (19) as he faced the Bangladesh bowlers and brought up his half-century with a four.

But Shakib ended that stand and any further resistance, caught Sundar going for a reverse sweep and then struck twice more to flatten the Indian batting.

Rahul, who hit five fours and four sixes, dragged the innings in the 40th over before falling to Ebadot with an errant pull shot that was caught by Anamul Haque in the deep.
