Kuhnmann lofts the ball well around middle, inviting Ashwin to move forward as he tries to defend but ends up taking a slight edge off the away side. Alex Carey took a sharp catch to his right behind the stumps and also managed to get the bails out in a flash for stumping.

The Australians went into an appeal almost immediately. The square leg umpire sends it up for referral as the UltraEdges show a spike and Ashwin has to go back to the dressing room.

Kuhnmann took his maiden five-for India Got out for 109 runs.

IND V OFF, 3RD TEST – Live

After India won the toss and elected to bat first on a dry pitch, frantic play followed, where every ball was literally an event as the ball got bigger in addition to the variable bounce that came into play.

The opening over saw exciting action, with the returning Mitchell Starc giving Rohit Sharma a faint edge, but Australia did not seek a review. Replays later showed that if a review had been taken, it could have been Australia’s wicket.

Rohit and Shubman Gill hit six brilliant fours in the first five overs. But from there the spinners of Australia laid a vicious trap to trap the Indian batsmen. Rohit was the first to fall, dancing down the pitch to get to mid-on, but the ball could not reach the pitch as it turned sharply and was out stumped by Kuhnmann.

The left-arm spinner made a comeback in his next over as Gill got out on a defensive prod and was caught at first slip. Lyon then broke through Cheteshwar Pujara’s defense to turn sharply and hit the stumps. Ravindra Jadeja’s promotion backfired as he could not keep the cut down and was caught at cover by Lyon.

In the very next over, Shreyas Iyer clipped his stumps off Kuhnmann for a two-ball duck. While other batsmen crumbled, Virat Kohli Looked confident in his defense and got some timed boundaries as well.

But his stay ended on 22 when off-spinner Todd Murphy trapped him in front of the stumps. KS Bharath played a powerful sweep and slog-sweep but was trapped leg before by Lyon at lunch.
