Virat Kohli played the helicopter shot in the third ODI against Sri Lanka.

It was raining sixes off his bat after the milestone and MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot had an over-long shadow that brought a big smile to Kohli’s face. Most of his maximums came in the Cow Corner region.

Although Virat Kohli is in good form, his innings in Thiruvananthapuram was something special. The pace displayed by Badshah himself was very effective as he raced to his 150 in no time after completing his century in 85 balls. He was slow at first and hit his first maximum when he was in his eighties and it was a mishit over long on, which made him laugh.

Meanwhile, he started the innings with quick boundaries before accumulating runs with his exemplary running between the wickets. He reached 99 with a boundary, which came after collisions with Ashen Bandara and Jeffrey Vandersay, who were both running towards the ball from deep square leg and deep midwicket.

But one of the best shots of the innings came in the 43rd over when he played a helicopter shot off MS Dhoni, smashing Kasun Rajitha at long-on. A video shared by the BCCI shows Kohli lining up the ball and then digging it out outside the off stump and launching it over long on. The follow through of the bat confirmed it was the helicopter.

Kohli is now only three short of equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds. Kohli’s conversion ratio is remarkable as he completed his 46th century in 259 innings while Tendulkar took 452 innings to reach 49 centuries.

India scored 116 runs in the last 10 overs and Kohli scored a century. It was raining sixes off his bat after the milestone and MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot had an over-long shadow that brought a big smile to Kohli’s face. Most of his maximums came in the Cow Corner region.

In reply to India’s mammoth total, Sri Lanka never really got going in the chase. Siraj got Avishka Fernando caught at wide slip in the second over of the innings. After that it was a procession with Siraj walking through the top of the order.
