Sanju Samson made the cut for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka but had to be ruled out after injuring himself in the first match of the series at the Wankhede.

If you’re in Kerala, it’s hard to escape the Sanju Samson craze and Suryakumar Yadav found out firsthand during the third ODI India and Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram.

Back in September, when Surya visited these parts of the country, he was seen flashing Sanju Samson’s picture on his smartphone as Team India boarded the bus from the airport. Thereafter, India faced South Africa just before the T20 World Cup in this place. Three months later, Surya is back in Thiruvananthapuram and has to confess once again that he is as big a fan of the Kerala cricketer as any other Malayali.

The incident happened during Sri Lanka’s mammoth 391-run chase. The 32-year-old was fielding at the boundary when some fans started chanting “Sanju Sanju”, which was noticed by Surya. Attracting his attention, fans have the question: “Where is Sanju?”

Yet, Suriya is quick to speak his heart as if Sanju Samson is in his heart. The fans were bowled over and gave Suriya a big blow in response. watch

In fact, Samson made the cut for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka but had to pull out after injuring himself in the first match of the series at the Wankhede. A BCCI statement in this regard on January 5 read, “Samson was taken to Mumbai this afternoon by the BCCI medical team for scans and a specialist opinion and has been advised rest and rehabilitation.”

Samson failed to recover to miss the cut for the impending three-match series against New Zealand at home later this month.

He will next be seen in action in IPL 2023 with the Rajasthan Royals until he is picked for the ODIs against Australia.

Captain Rohit Sharma (42 off 49 balls) and Shubman Gill (116 off 97 balls) stitched a fluent opening partnership of 95 before Kohli (166 not out off 110) took India five wickets from his 74th international century and 46th. Wrapped up for 390 runs on the wicket. 50 over format.
