Increase in calls to childcare helpline in Mysore | Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysuru: Awareness programs run by child helpline workers have yielded results, with the helpline number ‘1098’ registering a spurt in calls during the pandemic.
In the past seven months, activists who answered calls to the helpline have taken note of more than 950 queries and helped prevent child marriages, force children to drop out of school and reunite children who have been was lost along with their families.
In Mysore, the helpline is managed by personnel associated with the rural literacy and health program and workers of the Nisarga Foundation.
Before 2021, workers attended an average of 1,100 calls every year, however, the numbers have risen sharply following the decision to educate teachers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers about the benefits of seeking support.
