Aurangabad, Bihar:

In Bihar’s Aurangabad district, a candidate who lost an election for the post of Panchayat chief has been arrested after a video of two Dalit men being assaulted went viral.

Candidate Balwant Singh has been accused of blaming the Dalit community for his defeat and beating up two people from the community for allegedly not voting for him.

Balwant can be heard saying that he paid two voters, and they still did not vote for him. He verbally abuses the two men and punishes them by doing sit-ups, holding their ears.

He then physically attacks one of them and forces her to spit and lick on the ground. He can be seen holding her by the neck and lying on the ground.

NDTV cannot independently verify the veracity of the video that surfaced today.

Balwant has alleged that both the youths were rioting under the influence of alcohol and when both of them became sober, he punished them. However, the video establishes that Balwant was talking about paying them.

Taking quick action on the instructions of District Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra, the police arrested the accused. Mishra said that the matter is being investigated.
