In a shocking incident, a woman died after being bitten by a domestic cat in the Shivamogga district.

Several cases of pet attacks have made headlines in recent days. The incidents sparked concerns among residents and authorities. In the same situation, a shocking incident has taken place in which a woman died after being bitten by a domestic cat. The incident is from Shivamogga, Karnataka. The deceased has been identified as Gangibai, a 50-year-old woman from Tarlaghatta village in Shikaripur taluk of Shivamogga district. The doctor said that the woman died of rabies due to the cat bite. Two months ago, the woman was bitten by a pet cat on her leg. A cat that first attacked a youth in a camp in Tarlaghatta then bit the woman. The woman had to take a few injections because of the bite. Then she recovered after receiving one injection. Because of this, she did not receive the other injections. The negligence of not getting the injection took the life of the woman.

If the saliva of an infected animal comes into contact with the mucous membranes of another animal or human, such saliva can also transmit rabies. Most cases of rabies in humans are caused by dog bites. In this case, the woman died of rabies spread by a cat.

Last year, a government teacher and his 24-year-old son allegedly died within a week due to a rabies infection. The duo was bitten and scratched by their pet cat in Uttar Pradesh’s Akbarpur town. The officials stated that the cat had been bitten by a stray dog.

According to a recent report by the World Health Organization (WHO), cat bites account for 2–50 percent of injuries related to animal bites globally, second to dog bites. It said, “Cat bites are associated with rabies viral infections and several bacterial infections related to bartonella, brucella, leptospira, and campylobacter species. The likelihood of a cat bite becoming infected is double that of a dog bite.”
