When he stopped, another robber pulled out the gun and, pointing at Vajrang, threatened him not to start the bus. Frightened by the gun, Vajrang opened the door and ran outside, while Safi Abdul Raiji, the sweeper, quickly left the cabin and locked the door from outside.
The three robbers trapped inside the cabin started beating them to break the door.
Some passengers swiftly came to the aid of the cleaners to make sure the robbers did not open the door.
During this, when there was no push, then when the door was opened, a robber fired twice at the glass door. One of the passengers, Anil Dangar, who was helping Raiji guard the door, was injured. When Raiji took the injured person to the back seat, the robbers managed to enter the passenger area.
However, by then his fourth accomplice also reached the spot in a car and all three fled with him.
Later, an ambulance was called to the spot and taken to Dangar Bharuch Civil Hospital and later moved to Surat, while Raiji lodged a complaint at Ankleshwar Town Police Station.
Police said that a case of attempt to murder, attempt to robbery, wrongful restraint and criminal conspiracy has been registered against the four unidentified robbers.
“Due to the resistance of the passengers they did not allow the robbers to enter inside the passenger area and shouted, the robbers realized that they would not succeed and fled. We are looking for them on the basis of the details of the car given by the cleaner of the bus,” said Inspector VN Rabari of Ankleshwar Town police station.
