Director-producer Imtiaz Ali has been appointed as the ambassador of the Russian Film Festival in India. As part of the festival, ten notable Russian films from different genres will be premiered for Indian audiences on Disney+ Hotstar from October 16 to November 27. Ali said the festival would serve as a foundation for many future cinematic collaborations between India and Russia.

“Russia and India have cultural ties that are very old. Film stars like Raj Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty have been very popular in Russia and at the same time, Russian music and cinema have been a part of popular culture in India.

Sarfaraz Alam, the festival director of the Russian Film Festival, said that they intend to bring films from Russia to India regularly in the future. “Russian films offer all kinds of emotions and genres and cover a wide range of stories that everyone can relate to. As Indian audiences now watch more international content, this film festival will be able to explore and enjoy them.” Provides a new look to the industry,” Alam said.

The first online Russian Film Festival in India is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Cinema Fund, Moscow City Tourism Committee, Discover Moscow, Rosotrudnichestvo and Kartina Entertainment.

The festival was launched in 2020 and has been successfully held in 14 countries with over 200 thousand spectators.
