New Delhi: The Kolkata Customs department on Sunday (January 8) recovered USD 40000 worth over Rs 32 lakh after searching the check-in baggage of a passenger. 100 dollar notes of US currency were hidden inside the gutkha pouch.
According to customs officials, the passenger was about to depart for Bangkok on Sunday (January 8) when he was intercepted by the department and when the passenger’s luggage was searched, UD dollar notes were found folded inside a choker pouch .
In a video shared by news agency ANI, a customs official is seen tearing apart a packet containing a string of ghutta pouches. The officials are seen recovering a Gutka pouch of tea and two currency notes of US $100 in silver packaging which was cleverly concealed inside a smaller Gutka pouch. A total of USD 40,000 was concealed in these small gutka pouches.

A video of US dollar notes being hidden in gutka pouches went viral on microblogging site Twitter and Twitteratis were left in awe of the packaging of $100 notes in tiny gutka pouches. Some users also wondered whether the currency notes were hidden manually or whether there was a machine to do so. “Impressive packaging,” wrote one user, while another wrote, “Bhai…pack kar liya automatic machine se.”
