IMD issues flood alert for Delhi as Yamuna flows over danger mark

New Delhi: IMD issues flood alert in Delhi as Yamuna water level rises to dangerous level and is expected to issue flood alert in Delhi if heavy rains occur tomorrow, along with states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu Flood warnings will also be issued in the northern states. Kashmir.

CM Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting regarding the alert and discussed the torrential rains and rising Yamuna water level. He also addressed a press conference and said that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to deal with it.

He said, “Unprecedented rains caused problems to the people and Delhi’s system was not able to handle it. Every year after the rains, some sensitive areas get waterlogged and the water recedes within a few hours. But 153 mm of rain was unprecedented and an event that happened in about 40 years.”

Yamuna reached danger level in Delhi on Monday as Haryana released excess water into the river from Hathinikund barrage due to heavy rains in the upper catchment districts.

The water level at the old railway bridge increased from 203.18 meters at 1 pm on Sunday to 203.58 meters at 10 am on Monday. The alert level is set at 204.5 metres.

The chief minister said he was in touch with the Central Water Commission and the weather forecast indicated that though there would be more rain, it would not be that heavy.

“There might have been some potholes on the roads due to rain. These will be filled with stones to prevent any untoward incident. We have also ordered an inquiry into the incidents of road subsidence. The area under the New Delhi Municipal Council, which is a VVIP area, was waterlogged. We have asked them (NDMC) to resolve the issues.
