GURUGRAM: Mercury is on the rise and is likely to touch 30 degrees Celsius by Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD, The city witnessed a sunny day with strong surface winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph on Tuesday.
The day’s minimum temperature was recorded at 10.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, while the maximum temperature settled at 27.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal.
Manmohan Singh, director of IMD (Chandigarh), said: “Under the influence of a western disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan, we are witnessing strong surface winds ranging between 30-40 kmph in the region. Both minimum and maximum temperatures are showing a rising trend. While strong winds have prevented the increase in the daytime temperature for now, it is expected to touch 30 degrees by Friday. Another western disturbance is likely to hit the region from February 25. Strong surface winds are likely to prevail on Wednesday too.”
According to the IMD’s forecast, there will be partly cloudy conditions on Wednesday. The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 12 and 28 degrees Celsius. The city has in February so far received 7.1mm rainfall against the normal of 10.7mm.
Meanwhile, the city’s air quality index (AQI) deteriorated to ‘poor’ on Tuesday. The overall AQI stood at 222, while it was 194 the day before. Vikas SadanSector 51 and Teri Gram stations reported ‘poor’ AQI on Tuesday with a reading of 209, 224 and 203, respectively. Gwalpahari had ‘moderate’ AQI at 167.
