Images of Indian soldiers hoisting the flag on the surface of Galwan Valley after similar claims by China

New Delhi: After a purported video of Chinese soldiers celebrating New Year at a place near Galwan Valley surfaced on social media, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday tweeted pictures of Indian Army soldiers holding the tricolor in Galwan.

Kiren Rijiju tweeted with the pictures, “Brave jawans of Indian Army in Galwan Valley on the occasion of New Year 2022.”

The government came under fire from the opposition after Chinese state media put out a video purportedly showing PLA soldiers hoisting their national flag in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley to celebrate the new year.

However, the army had said that the place where the Chinese flag was hoisted was not in the disputed area. A PTI report claimed that the video was from an area in the Chinese region of the LAC near the Galwan Valley region.

After the video went viral, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala targeted the Center over Chinese encroachment.

Randeep Surjewala told reporters, “Prime Minister, the whole country and the world wants to know how the Chinese raised the Chinese flag in Galwan Valley and wrote in Chinese that they will not give back even an inch of land.”

Randeep Surjewala said the prime minister should “not be afraid” of China and accused the government of compromising on national security.

“Please, show China red eyes. Please, look into their eyes and make sure Chinese crime is decisively defeated. Please show the world that India can’t just protect itself, we can drive those people out.” Those who dare to occupy our territory, that is ‘raj dharma’,” Surjewala said.

“With a sense of responsibility, I must say today that the Modi government has compromised on national security. I must say that we have a weak prime minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he alleged.

In June 2020, more than 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a skirmish with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley of eastern Ladakh. China has claimed that five of its soldiers were killed in the clash.

The border standoff between Indian and Chinese armies began on May 5, 2020, following violent clashes in the Pangong Lake area.
