In Rajasthan, the effect of a woman doctor’s suicide after being disturbed by the indecency of a patient’s family is visible all over the country. Doctors everywhere are troubled by this incident. Due to this, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged the Supreme Court to take necessary steps for the protection of doctors. A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Dwarka branch of IMA. In this petition, a demand has been made to set up a medico-legal cell in every police station. Along with this, a demand has also been made from the top court to order the government to make arrangements for compensation to the doctors who are victims of the beatings of the families of the patients.

Doctors are being continuously attacked
In the public interest litigation, IMA has said that during the treatment of patients, their family members attack doctors on suspicion of immorality. Such incidents are increasing continuously. Due to this, doctors have to lose their lives many times.

The IMA, in a petition filed through Advocate Shashank Dev Sudhi, has sought a direction to the Central Government to make a mechanism to give compensation to the families of doctors who lost their lives in public service due to such attacks.

Medico-legal cell should investigate such cases in police stations
The petition has demanded the Supreme Court to issue comprehensive guidelines for setting up of separate medico-legal cells in all police stations across the country. This cell should be digitally enabled and investigation of all the cases alleging medical negligence should be entrusted to this cell so that it can be properly determined whether the case is of doctor’s negligence or something else.

Rajasthan doctor’s suicide investigation should be handed over to CBI
In the petition, there has also been a demand to hand over the investigation of the case of Dr. Archana Sharma, who committed suicide in Dausa city of Rajasthan, to the CBI. There has been a demand to order the CBI to investigate the whole situation, due to which the young gynecologist had to take a step like suicide.

Local politician has been accused of threatening the doctor
