Manish Sisodia was arrested in the CBI case on February 26 in connection with the probe into the excise policy, following which he resigned as the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday broke down while inaugurating a new branch of the BR Ambedkar School of Specialized Excellence in Bawana, remembering his former deputy Manish Sisodia, who was jailed in connection with the probe into the excise policy case. Speaking at the event, the AAP supremo said that the party leader will get bail very soon as he has been sent to jail on false charges.

With tears rolling down his cheeks, Kejriwal said, “I am remembering Manish Sisodia today. Manish Sisodia started it with the aim of providing quality education to all. They falsely accused him and unjustly imprisoned him. I am sure Manish Sisodia will be out of jail very soon. Truth always wins. He is jailed because he is building good schools and Aam Aadmi Party is getting popular.”

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Kejriwal said, “They want to stop the progress of Delhi’s education.” They (BJP) want the education revolution in Delhi to end but we will not let it happen. Everyone has the same opinion about Delhi government schools all over the world that our schools are the best.”

On 5 June, the Delhi High Court denied interim bail to Sisodia in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam, saying he was facing “extremely serious” charges and likely to “influence witnesses”. Is.

Sisodia had sought bail to take care of his ailing wife. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma allowed him to meet her at his residence or hospital for a day between 10 am and 5 pm at his convenience, but with certain conditions that he would not interact with the media.

Sisodia was arrested in the CBI case on February 26 in connection with the probe into the excise policy, following which he resigned as the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi. He was later arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9 and is currently in judicial custody.

Sisodia had sought release on a temporary basis for six weeks, stating that he was the sole caregiver of his ailing wife. His plea for regular bail in the case is pending before the High Court.

The Enforcement Directorate had opposed the interim bail plea on the ground of possibility of tampering of evidence. The ED’s counsel also claimed that Sisodia’s wife was suffering from such a disease for the last 20 years.

The high court had on May 30 rejected Sisodia’s bail plea in a corruption case filed by the CBI in the alleged excise policy scam, saying he was an influential person and the allegations against him were very serious in nature.

The Delhi government implemented the policy on November 17, 2021, but scrapped it in late September 2022 amid allegations of corruption.

The High Court has kept the interim bail plea pending for July in the CBI case.
