Jamie Overton to miss entire tournament in UAE due to lumbar stress fracture

Gulf Giants, owned by Adani Sportsline, announced that former West Indies T20 International captain Carlos Brathwaite will replace Jamie Overton, the right-arm pacer from England.

The England fast bowler will miss the entire tournament in the UAE due to a lumbar stress fracture.

Jamie Overton was intended to be one of the pillars of the Gulf Giants’ unit. The team will miss the English fast bowler, who is capable of contributing with the bat as well.

After playing T20s around the world, Overton appeared in over 83 T20s and 88 first-class matches, including one Test match for the England national team, where he scored 97 against New Zealand.

To compensate the team, Carlos Brathwaite will join the team. The West Indies all-rounder is an experienced T20 specialist with over 200 matches to his credit. Despite Overton’s injury, Braithwaite’s arrival meant that the Giants were strengthened with a power hitter who could be deployed anywhere in the batting order.

Gulf Giants begin their campaign when they take on Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in their first match of the season at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Gulf Giants head coach Andy Flower said, “It is unfortunate that he will not be a part of the tournament given the nature of his injury. I wish him a speedy recovery. In the meantime, I am delighted that we can have Carlos with us.” He is a young dynamic player who will strengthen our team.”
