This year they are organizing the flagship event ‘Kharagpur Data Science Hackathon’ starting from 21st November 2021. Kharagpur Data Analytics Group is a student-led academic group at IIT Kharagpur that aims to unite data analytics and machine learning enthusiasts under one banner. To accomplish this, they organize a range of activities including research paper reading sessions, data science and machine learning workshops, hackathons, and publish blogs in the topics of Data Science, Machine Learning and Deep Learning to name a few .
The previous edition of the hackathon was a resounding success, with over 1200 participants signed up! The event faced stiff competition from participants from across the country, which resulted in some laudable innovative solutions to the given problem statement. Most of the registrations have come from reputed institutes like IITs and IIMs. Of the 230+ teams competing, 30 teams advanced to the final round.
Anshul Joshi, Senior Data Scientist, Airtel X Labs, led a brief interactive session on the widespread use of Data Science in the business world, which was followed by the final round of evaluation. According to the results IIEST Shibpur topped, followed by BITS Pilani and then IIT Kharagpur. The tournament was sponsored by Bharti Airtel, and the top team got Rs 50,000 in prize money!

It is a virtual event in which players provide a solution to an industrial problem description over a specific period of time, requiring them to turn their visionary ideas into practical code. The 2021 hackathon will be sponsored by RedBus, and the prize money will be Rs 60,000! Through a real-world problem, the tournament seeks to encourage new analytical thinking among participants.
