IAS officer Awanish Sharan recently tweeted a list of the top 5 toughest tests in the world, and it appears that two of India’s most sought after competitive exams are on the list – IIT JEE and UPSC CSE

People spend a large part of their lives preparing for these exams, and may try for years to crack them. A vast syllabus, a significant amount of competition and very low pass percentage make these exams even tougher. IAS officer Awanish Sharan recently tweeted a list of the top 5 toughest tests in the world, and it appears that two of India’s most demanding competitive exams are on the list.

Joint Entrance Examination – Indian Institutes technology (IIT JEE Exam) and Union Public Service Commission – Civil Services Examination (UPSC-CSE) are known as the toughest exams in India. Gaokao Exam (China): Gaokao, also known as National Hire Education The Entrance Examination, or National College Entrance Examination, is an annual test that high school students seeking to enroll in graduate programs in China must take. Less than 0.25 percent of students who take the nine-hour Gaokao exam in their third and final year of high school obtain the required scores for admission to some of China’s most prestigious institutions.

IIT JEE Exam (Joint Entrance Examination, Indian Institute of Technology): India

The National Testing Agency (NTA) in India conducts the IIT JEE engineering entrance exam to evaluate candidates for undergraduate engineering programs in prestigious IITs across the country. This exam takes two years of diligent preparation on an average and assesses the candidate’s aptitude in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Additionally, it evaluates their reasoning, analytical and comprehensive abilities. IIT acceptance rate is around 1%. When you take into account the extensive syllabus and the unpredictable nature of the questions, the exam becomes one of the toughest in the world.

UPSC Exam (Union Public Service Commission) India: The Government of India conducts the UPSC exam to fill posts in organizations such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services. The Prelims consists of two general-subject objective papers, which form the first part of the exam. The main exam, which consists of seven papers, is attempted by those who qualify for the prelims. The pass percentage of UPSC exam varies between 0.1 percent to 0.4 percent. Candidates after qualifying the preliminary and mains exam move to the interview stage, where a panel will assess their personality, awareness and reasoning.

Mensa – England: Internationally, Mensa is the largest and most established high IQ organization that assesses candidates’ skills in areas such as logic, reasoning and problem solving. This non-profit organization administers highly challenging testing to create a society of people who score above the 98th percentile on administered IQ tests. Any applicant who passes the Mensa test and falls within the top 2 percent of the entire population is admitted as a member.

GRE (Graduate Record Examination) – United States: The GRE is a standardized test that assesses a student’s general academic preparation for graduate school. As a result, this test is required for students seeking admission to many graduate programs in the US, Canada, and some other countries. The GRE is extremely difficult because of its reading and vocabulary requirements. To clear the sections, candidates must have strong deduction ability.
