IISc will now prepare science teachers, looking to introduce BSc-B.Ed integrated curriculum

In an effort to produce excellent teachers for the future, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) It is planned to start a four-year integrated course on B.Sc.-B.Ed. National education Policy 2020 paves the way for Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP). Generally, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) is a two-year full-time degree course which is opted for after graduation or post-graduation studies.

The four-year ITEP is designed for all students who want to pursue a career in teaching. This integrated course benefits the students as it gives them the option to save an entire year by completing it in four years instead of the five years required for the current B.Ed scheme.

Speaking at the sixth edition of the visitors’ conference on Tuesday, IISc Director Govindan Rangarajan termed ITEP as a great initiative. He said that all major educational institutions should participate in this initiative. “The country cannot progress in science and technology without training excellent school teachers,” Rangarajan said, as reported by education.com.

He further said that by starting such programs institutions like IISc can set an example for high quality teachers training.

A guest conference was to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 7 and June 8. President Ram Nath Kovind, who is also the Chancellor of IISc, is hosting the event and presenting the Visitor Awards 2020 in the categories of Research and Technological Development.

During the event, the President noted that the Indian Institute of Science has achieved an absolute score of 100 on the ‘research’ parameter and shares this gap with eight highly reputed institutions of the world, including Princeton, Harvard, MIT and Caltech. He congratulated Dr. Govindan Rangarajan, Director, IISc, and his team for this achievement.

The two-day conference is witnessing presentations and deliberations on various topics. Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is also attending the conference. India Chairman of Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC).
