If we get a good score, our bowlers can get the opposition out, says PBKS captain KL Rahul

KL Rahul picked his bowlers to special praise after their combined effort as Punjab Kings defended a low score against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2021 match at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Batting first on a difficult pitch, PBKS made 125/7 and then restricted SRH to 120/7 for a five-run victory.

Mohammed Shami dismissed David Warner and captain Kane Williamson in his first two overs of the Powerplay and then Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets to leave SRH in deep trouble.

Rahul said the performance of his bowlers gives the team confidence that they can deliver match-winning performances in any conditions. “We have been playing some recreational cricket and have been doing it for the last two or three years. We wanted to score another 20-30 runs but we will win. It gives us our belief,” Rahul said in the post-match presentation. Whatever be the situation, our bowlers can get the opposition out with a good score.

He continued, “Shami bowled really well in the beginning, Warner and Williamson got two big batsmen. Made it easier for our spinners to settle into a good line and length.”

However, Rahul did give some advice to his batsmen. He said that he needs to take care of different conditions and not go for hammer and tongs thinking that every pitch will be full of runs. “The lesson for the batsmen will be to realize that it is not a surface of 160-170, if we had built some partnerships, we could have reached 140-150,” said Rahul.

He also heaped praise on SRH all-rounder Jason Holder, who picked up three wickets before posting an unbeaten 47 of 29 to give PBKS a late scare. “He (Holder) played very well. With the first ball, took those two wickets in an over and then batted really well, on a pitch where it was difficult to play big shots,” said Rahul.
