Suryakumar Yadav scored a match-winning half-century to drive India’s chase of 111 against USA in New York.

Navjot Singh Sidhu was all praise for Suryakumar Yadav after the India batter struck a match-winning fifty against the USA in a T20 World Cup match on Wednesday.

Suryakumar looked quite pale in the first two matches against Ireland and Pakistan. However, he stepped up when India lost three wickets early on the tricky pitch of the Nassau County Cricket Stadium.

Suryakumar respected the conditions and built a solid partnership with Shivam Dube to take his team across the line.

After India secured seven-wicket win in the low-scoring clash, Sidhu highlighted Suryakumar’s match-winning ability.

The cricketer-turned-pundit reckons the 33-year-old will “invariably win the match” for his team once he starts finding the groove.

The middle-order came in to bat against the USA following the dismissal of captain Rohit Sharma in the third over. At that moment, Virat Kohli had already returned to the pavilion, with the Men in Blue wobbling at 10/2 in chase of 111.

Rishabh Pant also failed to survive for long as he was cleaned up by Ali Khan in the eighth over after scoring 20 off 18 balls. .

The USA got an opportunity to get rid of Surya in the 13th over when he was batting at 22. Saurabh Netravalkar, however, dropped the catch after running back from the short-third region.

Suryakumar went on to complete his half-century off 49 balls and remained unbeaten till the end.

“You cannot lose the match when Suryakumar Yadav plays. If he scores more than 50, invariably you will win the match. Why? Because of the pace at which he scores. That’s why I say the match could have changed to an extent if his catch had been taken,” Sidhu said on Star Sports.

The former Indian batter pointed out how the Suryakumar accelerated in the last five overs, putting pressure on the USA bowling unit.

“A catch went to third man when he was batting on 20 or 22 and you can see how quickly he went from 22 to 52. In eight balls, he hit a six over cover, then another six and after that a four. It’s a blitzkrieg when he is batting. The bowler is helpless and hapless when he starts hitting,” Sidhu explained.
