‘If I don’t get CM…’: Mamata asks voters in Bhawanipur not to be complacent

Claiming that it would be wrong to assume that she will ‘only win’ from Bhabnipur, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Asked voters not to get complacent and urged them to exercise their franchise in large numbers on 30 September.

Addressing a public meeting in Ekbalpur, he said his defeat at Nandigram in East Midnapore was a “big conspiracy”. “This is my destiny…Yeh takdeer ka khela hai…Allah Meherbaan Hai…. Lord Shiva, with the blessings of Maa Durga, I am once again here to contest the by-election from Bhabnipur. So please vote for me Otherwise you will not be able to make me chief minister. This election has become a challenge because BJP is continuously conspiring against me.

Recently, while addressing a convention of TMC workers at Chetla in Bhawanipur assembly constituency, she had said, ‘There was a conspiracy against me in Nandigram and hence I lost. The matter is still in court. How come a booth where there are 500 voters but 1,000 people voted? Courts do not accept arguments without evidence. They (BJP) conspired to defeat me.

“I have done several development works here in Ekbalpur including Garden Reach flyover. I asked Bobby (TMC MLA Firhad Hakim) to tell me what more needs to be done here. I will definitely fulfill the demands of my dear people here.”

Hitting out at Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb for imposing Section 144 to prevent Trinamool Congress from holding meetings, he questioned at a separate meeting in Chetla area, “How do people perform Durga Puja in Tripura on October 12 amid the block Will celebrate 144? What about Kali Puja, how will people celebrate it on 4th November? BJP leaders mislead people that we do not allow Durga Puja in Bengal. Now I want to ask him what is happening in Tripura. Why has the Tripura government imposed section 144 during the festive season? I want to warn them that please do not apply section 144 against Maa Durga and Maa Kali otherwise the consequences will be dangerous.

“This by-election will decide and teach us to fight a new battle against the BJP across the country,” he said. I would like to announce today that Khela Hobe in Uttar Pradesh, Khela Hobe in Assam, Khela Hobe in Tripura and Khela Hobe in Goa.

Appreciating the excellent performance of his party workers in the recently held assembly elections, he warned the BJP leaders that they have strong players who know how to play with the BJP.

TMC MLA from Bhawanipur constituency Sovandev Chattopadhyay resigned from the post on May 21, 2021 to make way for Mamata Banerjee.

By law, Mamata Banerjee, who lost her Nandigram seat to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari in the assembly elections, can run the state as chief minister, but will have to be elected within the next six months to retain her post.
