Iconic Tata Sumo Digitally-Modified With Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen Essence

The Tata Sumo was once a favorite car for those looking for a multi-purpose vehicle. It was first launched in India in 1994. The MPV saw several updates in the run up to its discontinuation in 2019. Tata Motors also launched a second generation model called the Sumo Grande, which has a much shorter lifespan. It was sold from 2008 to 2016. However, the OG Sumo remained a crowd favorite for its boxy, old-school design, which is why enthusiasts admire the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. With few similarities between these models, digital artist – Bimble Designs modified a Tata Sumo with G-Wagen-like appeal.

The designer uploaded the modified image of the Tata Sumo on his Instagram handle. The folks at Bimble Designs call their creation the Tata Sumo Rocket. Since the inspiration comes from the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Rocket suffix matches up well with the name. Talking about the changes done to this Sumo, the most notable one is the metallic black paint scheme. Since most of the Sumos on Indian roads are in white, it looks intimidating in black. In addition to this, it now rides on a set of gloss-black alloy wheels that are modest in size and feature low-profile rubber.

Other changes on this Sumo include wider wheel arches which also get vents like the G-Wagen. In addition, the SUV now gets a front splitter, and clear-lens turn indicators on the bonnet, which also have scoops. The designers have added roof marker lamps while the exhaust tips now flare out from the sides like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. At the rear, the SUV gets a roof mounted spoiler. Also, the car has been lowered to sit closer to the ground. The Sumo has always attracted Indian enthusiasts, and this example looks a bit spookier than the stock car.
