Iconic former player tells Virat Kohli to return to first-class cricket: ‘Get back in form, then we will see’

Virat Kohli’s poor form in T20 cricket is a matter of concern for Team India and it is currently dividing the cricket world more than ever. There are people who are supporting Kohli and there are others who are saying why Ashwin was dropped, then why Kohli is being preferred by BCCI. Even Kohli’s numbers look normal at the moment, scoring just 20 runs in 2 matches the doctor ordered. In addition, the former India Keeper Syed Kirmani also jumped on the bandwagon as he suggested the 33-year-old to return to first-class cricket.

First-class cricket is a tried and tested method for players who usually go back to the home team to find their lost form. Many players like Sourav Ganguly, and Zaheer Khan had taken this route in the past.

“Obviously, there is a lot of competition in this current era. If you are not performing in some innings, no matter how experienced you are, the selection committee takes a call and says, ‘That’s it. Go back to domestic cricket, get back in form, and then we’ll see if we can fit you back into the Indian team. Don’t see why this cannot apply to Virat Kohli,” Kirmani told India Today.

Meanwhile, former Kohli teammate Amit Mishra also asked fans to support Kohli, saying that he needs support.

“We can say that he is not in form currently but he has built so much reputation, performed so much and won so many games that it is important to support him. As a player, he is a match-winner and he Have always risen to the occasion in tough situations. Like juniors, sometimes seniors also need the same support. So keep that faith and make sure he doesn’t lose that confidence,” said Mishra.
