The BCCI has surprised everyone by appointing Dhoni as the mentor of the team for this tournament. Former captain and World Cup winning player Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known for his game as well as strategy, so his mark has also been seen somewhere in the team selection. The team of selectors led by Chetan Sharma has bet on spinners for this tournament.

Talking about the spinners, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been rewarded for his brilliant performance in the IPL and has returned to the national team after four years. Apart from these, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel have been included in the team as spin all-rounders. Whereas confidence has also been expressed in Rahul Chahar, who has consistently performed well in the IPL and the last few matches. Apart from these, expectations have also been kept from the mystery spinner and seven-way ball bowler Varun Chakraborty.
India has to play the first match of the tournament in the group stage on October 24, where it will face arch-rivals Pakistan. In such a situation, it has to be seen that in the first match, how many spinners the Indian team feeds in their last XI.
