Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday sent the mobile phone of the man who had shot the video of the helicopter crashing in Coonoor that killed Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat and 12 others for forensic investigation.
A Coimbatore wedding photographer named Joe, along with his friend Nazar and some of his family members, had gone to click pictures in the Katteri area of the hilly Nilgiris district on December 8. Curiously he had recorded a video of the unfortunate helicopter. His mobile phone, apparently moments before it crashed.
The video of the helicopter disappearing in the fog has gone viral on social media. As part of the investigation of the case, the district police has collected Joe’s mobile phone and sent it to the forensic lab in Coimbatore.
He said investigation is also on to find out why the photographer and some others along with him had gone to the dense forest area, which is a restricted area due to the frequent movement of wild animals.
Meanwhile, the police department has sought details related to weather and temperature in the area from the Meteorological Department in Chennai.
Besides this, the police is interrogating witnesses to gather clues about the accident. General Rawat, his wife and 11 others were killed when a Mi-17VH helicopter crashed in a wooded valley in the Kateri-Nanjappanachatram area of Coonoor on Wednesday. An Indian Air Force personnel survived the accident and is undergoing treatment in Bengaluru.
