IAF Chief visits forward areas of Ladakh amid border tension with China, reviews preparedness

New Delhi: The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary, is visiting forward areas in Ladakh, which lie along the Chinese border, to review the operational preparedness of troops deployed there.

The visit assumes significance amid tensions over construction by the Chinese across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

“The Air Force chief reached Leh airbase on Saturday morning and will hold a meeting with Indian Air Force personnel and special forces deployed in forward areas along the Line of Actual Control,” ANI quoted government sources as saying.

Sources said this is Air Chief Marshal Choudhary’s first visit to forward areas after taking over as the Chief of the Air Staff on October 1.

The Chinese Air Force has problems starting operations from its high altitude air bases at Nagari Gunsa, Kashgar and Hotan, among other areas of the region, the Indian Air Force has an edge and can launch from several airports near the Ladakh region. and reach places. Sources said that the majority of the current preparedness of the Chinese Army across the LAC in the Tibet Autonomous Region is to deal only with the Indian Air Force, ANI reported.

Earlier on October 5, the Air Force Chief had said that India is prepared to deal with “any two-front threat scenario”.

Air Chief Marshal Chaudhry said that China continues to deploy at three airports in the Tibet region, while India is fully prepared to deal with any situation.

“The situation along the Line of Actual Control is that the Chinese Air Force is still present at the three air bases of the LAC. We are fully positioned and ready from our side.”

When asked about the capabilities of the Chinese Air Force near Ladakh, Air Chief Marshal Chaudhry said, “China’s ability to launch multiple high altitude missions will remain weak”.
