‘I wish to retire from Test Cricket after series against Pakistan’: David Warner

David Warner: Australia’s legendary batsman David Warner said in a big statement that he wants to say goodbye to Test cricket in 2024 against Pakistan at his home ground Sydney Cricket Ground. The 2024 T20 World Cup will be his last match in the Australian jersey.

However, considering Warner’s recent Test form, even the Sydney Test is not guaranteed. Warner is preparing for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India next week. After this the Ashes series will be played against England.

He had done poorly in the recent Test matches. Earlier, Warner had said in a statement that he has always maintained that the 2024 T20 World Cup would be his last match.

“If I can score runs, I can continue playing in Australia. Then I can say that I will not play in the West Indies Test series, but if I make it to the Pakistan series, I can end my career.

Warner played his 100th Test against South Africa at the MCG last year. He scored a double century in the Boxing Day Test. In March, Ricky Ponting said that the double century was the ideal opportunity for Warner to say goodbye to red-ball cricket. This was Warner’s first century since January 2020.
