‘I was one of those people who questioned’: Happy on being proven wrong by former Indian opener Shardul Thakur

Unlike the Centurion Test, Team India struggled a bit in Johannesburg where it lost the second match by 7 wickets. The batsmen did not score enough to challenge the hosts and as a result, Dean Elgar & Co managed to level the series at 1-1.

Despite the defeat, there were some individual performances that kept the audience entertained. One of them is Shardul Thakur, who had a brilliant spell in the first innings. The fast bowling all-rounder scored 7/61 to help India give the hosts a slight 27-run lead. Also in the second innings, he played a quick knock of 28 runs, helping the hosts set a target of 240.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has been named Shardul’s 2. had objections to being selected forRa testing. However, the cricketer-turned-commentator was happy to see the latter’s spectacular all-round show at The Wanderers.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Chopra said, “Shardul Thakur has been the choice of Indian players rather than Indian bowlers in the second Test. Personally, I was one of those people who asked questions.

Chopra further explained why he had doubts about Thakur’s place in the team.

“If he is not scoring runs and not taking wickets in any case because if you are the fourth bowler, you do not get bowled. In fact, even when he took seven wickets, he bowled just one ball in the first 35 overs.

“So, if you are not offered in 35 overs and you don’t score runs, which was in the first two or three innings, then your place in the team is in question because then you will play a fourth fast bowler,” Chopra he said.

“But then, he turned this Test match on his head with that inspiring spell. He took seven wickets, which is a big achievement. After that, he scored a crucial 28 runs with the bat, giving India a lead of 239. So, in my opinion, Bhagwan Thakur is absolutely phenomenal,” said Chopra.
