Former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Dwayne Bravo retired as the highest wicket-taker in IPL history

Dwayne Bravo is on cloud nine after Chennai Super Kings created history by winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for a record fifth time. Days after achieving the big feat, Bravo – a loyal companion of the Chennai unit – has opened up about his journey from being a player to becoming a member of their coaching staff.

According to Bravo, it was just a phone call from Chennai skipper MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming that made him turn to coaching after announcing his IPL retirement last season.

Bravo said goodbye to IPL after 2022 season. But he was appointed as the bowling coach of CSK in December last year.

Dwayne Bravo wrote on Instagram, “I got a call from Captain Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming, who invited me to be a part of the coaching staff. There was no doubt in my mind that this is the direction to take my new cricket career.” wanted to go.”

The post further marked Bravo’s love and affection for the Chennai franchise. Bravo expressed his gratitude to the fans and called them “real champions” for being the backbone of the team throughout the season.

Lastly, Dwayne Bravo congratulated the young bowling unit for putting up a commendable performance this season. “Congratulations to each and every one of you, to the young bowling team. This victory is the result of your dedication and hard work.

Bravo’s former teammate Kieron Pollard congratulated his former West Indies teammate and CSK team for the title win.

Fans also showed their love and respect for Bravo, dubbing him “a champion coach”.

Bravo has been a prominent face in the IPL since starting his journey in the franchise tournament in the inaugural season of 2008. He spent the first three seasons with Mumbai Indians, who bought the West Indies all-rounder in the 2008 auction as a replacement for an injured Lasith Malinga.

Bravo shifted base to Chepauk after joining CSK in 2011.

Bravo took little time to declare himself as one of the leading all-rounders of the cash-rich tournament. Being a part of CSK, Bravo won the IPL title in 2011, 2018 and 2021. Bravo retired as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history with 183 wickets in 161 matches before being overtaken by Yuzvendra Chahal.

He also won the Purple Cap twice in 2013 and 2015.
