Mohammedan Sporting Club registered their first win on the road in the Hero I-League 2022-23 with a 3-0 win over Mumbai Kenkre FC at the Cooperage Stadium on Thursday.

On an evening when they went in as favourites, Mohammedan head coach Kibu Vicuna chose a starting XI devoid of a specialist striker as Abiola Douda was unavailable.

This meant that captain Marcus Joseph started the game with Mirlon Murazev on top of the pitch.

In the eighth minute itself, Kenkre got off to a flying start with Shankar Roy’s first save of the game.

However soon after this the game settled into a pattern, with Mohammedan controlling the midfield and patiently building up the game.

In the 10th minute, Joseph drew the first of several saves from Padam Chhetri in the Kenkre goal.

In the 34th minute, the game finally turned for Mohammedan when Mirlan Murazev fired a first-time shot into the top left corner.

Five minutes into the second half, Vicuna’s side took a firm grip on the game, with Christy Davies’ superb long-range effort putting them 2–0 up.

Marcus Joseph scored another goal on the hour mark to give Mohammedan a healthy 3–0 lead.

Joseph had a chance to double his tally in the 73rd minute after Mohammedan won a penalty but his effort was saved by Kenkre goalkeeper Chhetri.
