‘I Have Nothing To Say’: BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly On Virat Kohli’s ODI Captaincy Saga

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has refused to comment on Virat Kohli’s ongoing white-ball captaincy after a lot of pressure. On Wednesday, the latter spoke to media personnel about his removal as ODI captain and said he had no ‘prior communication’ from the board.

Kohli’s statement contradicted what Ganguly told the media about the change in leadership. The BCCI chief had said that the Indian Test captain was unwilling to continue as the T20I captain. Thus, the selectors took this decision as the selectors wanted just one player to lead the team in the limited overs format.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Ganguly refused to comment on the episode and urged him not to “take it any further”.

“Don’t take it any further, I have nothing to say,” Sourav Ganguly told reporters.

Asked if any action will be taken against Virat Kohli after the South Africa tour, Ganguly said, “I have nothing to say. It is a BCCI matter and they will deal with it.”

A day after Kohli’s removal as the ODI captain, Ganguly spoke to the agency and said that he had actually spoken to Virat about the change of leadership. The BCCI president said that he had requested Virat not to give up the T20I captaincy.

“It is a call that the BCCI and the selectors took together. Actually, BCCI had requested Virat not to step down as T20I captain, but apparently, he did not agree. And then the selectors didn’t think it right to have two different captains for the two white-ball formats,” Ganguly had told ANI.

“So it was decided that Virat would continue as the Test captain and Rohit would take over as the white-ball captain. I personally spoke to Virat Kohli as chairman and the chairman of selectors has also spoken to him,” the BCCI president had added.

Virat Kohli will lead India in the upcoming Test series against South Africa starting December 26 at Centurion.
