Rohit Sharma has led India six times in Test cricket resulting in four wins, one loss and one draw

Rohit Sharma took over India’s Test captaincy last year Virat Kohli Stepped down after the tour of South Africa, he would lead India in a two-match series against Sri Lanka at home, a 2–0 clean sweep in his first assignment as full-time Test captain.

Injuries have prevented him from progressing in any format in 2022, although India will only play three more Tests with Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul sharing the captaincy duties.

A fully fit Rohit, however, continues to lead India in four Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which his team recently won 2-1. While he has led the side extensively in white-ball cricket, especially in T20Is, the opener has just six Tests under his belt as captain.

They have won four of those Tests while the remaining two have ended in a draw and a loss. Frankly, this is not a significant enough sample to judge his captaincy in red-ball cricket.

When asked about Rohit’s assessment of his captaincy, he said, “I am still learning as a captain in every game that I have captained.” Old in terms of captaincy. I am still learning and the guys around me have played a lot of cricket and they are there to help.”

Rohit says that his aim is not to try to do anything ‘funny’ and he tries to keep it simple.

“Not that I haven’t played red-ball cricket in India, so I know how it usually works. So I try to think about all those things as a team. Memorize those ideas and bring them into play. Whenever I lead a team, I try to keep it very simple. I’ve always been careful not to try to do anything outlandish. Keep it simple as it is a longer version of the game and you need to be patient.”

He said, he is enjoying this phase of his captaincy.

“You need to be able to make the right decisions and for that you need to be calm on the field. And that’s what I always think about when I’m captaining the team. Still, like I said, I’m going to take my captaincy Learning about it. I am having fun. There is support from every player and support staff in the team. I am thoroughly enjoying this time leading the team,” said Rohit.

“There have been some challenges as well. Even as a captain, I had a challenge and when you are playing a series like this, you are bound to make mistakes. I made some mistakes but that’s how you learn and try and don’t repeat those mistakes again and again. I am still discovering new things about how I want to take the team forward.”
