K-pop fans are criticising HyunA for her relationship with Yong Jun-hyung, who was linked with the Burning Sun scandal.
HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung have become a hot topic of discussion after their glamorous pre-wedding photos surfaced online. While the couple look charming together, their happy moment has been overshadowed by controversy. Taking to social media, K-pop fans are criticising HyunA for her relationship with Yong Jun-hyung, who was linked with the Burning Sun scandal. The scandal, which came to light in 2019, exposed several high profile idols, who were involved in illegal activities.
While Yong Jun-hyung wasn’t directly involved in the case, he was accused of receiving and watching illegal videos shared on a secret chat room. Yong Jun-hyung even admitted his past mistakes earlier this year, but fans are still upset and continue to slam his relationship with HyunA. The couple, who are set to marry in October, are facing backlash from the public over their union in social media platform, The Qoo.
HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung had officially confirmed their relationship in January 2024 and in July, agencies of both the idols confirmed their marriage.
As per Soompi, HyunA’s agency wrote, “HyunA and Yong Junhyung, who have been a great source of comfort to each other during difficult times, have promised marriage. They will hold a wedding with close acquaintances in October and begin a new life. We thank everyone who always shows warm support and asks for many blessings for the future of HyunA, who has made a significant decision both as an artist and as an individual.”
Yong Jun-hyung’s agency added, “Yong Jun-hyung and HyunA, with deep affection and trust for each other, have decided to hold a wedding with close acquaintances this October. We would appreciate warm interest and blessings for Yong Junhyung as he embarks on a new chapter of his life as a married couple.”
According to Medium reports, the Burning Sun scandal involved a private chat group with former BigBang member Seungri, singer Jung Joon-young and former F.T.ISLAND member Choi Jong-hoon. In this group, they shared and discussed videos of women which were obtained illegally.
Following the expose, Seungri was found guilty of nine charges and spent 18 months in prison. Choi Jong-hoon also faced legal issues and left the entertainment industry in 2019. Jung Joon-young filmed and distributed illegal footage and served five years in prison. Although Yong Jun-hyung was not part of the chat group, he received illegal footage from Jung Joon-young.
