Gaming has picked up quite a bit lately, more and more people are adopting gaming. COVID-19 The pandemic has forced people to stay indoors more than usual. Not only to pass the time, in the past year or so many people have taken up gaming as a profession. This has led to a huge increase in the demand for gaming gear. Thankfully, we already have brands that make gaming-focused devices like a sub-brand of Kingston HyperX. HyperX has come up with its latest gaming headphones, the HyperX Cloud Stinger S. Priced at Rs 5,990, the HyperX Cloud Stinger S comes with 7.1 surround sound and is compatible with PC, xbox, Playstation 4, and smartphone. For our review, we looked at smartphones, PCs, and . Tested the new gaming headphones with Play Station 4. Let’s take a look at whether these are worth your Rs 5,990.

In terms of design, HyperX Cloud Stinger S Looks like your traditional gaming headphones. They come with a matte black finish and are made of plastic, with leatherette padding on the ear cups and headband. There’s a microphone on the left earcup that comes with swivel-to-mute functionality – the mic will turn on when you bring it down to speak. On the right earcup, under the earcup is the volume control. The overall design is good and the HyperX Cloud Stinger S looks like gaming-focused headphones. The finish and quality of the material is good and can withstand rough use. However, the overall size of the headphones is a bit too big and was a bit loose on my head, even at its tightest—basically moving my head rapidly while playing games would cause the headphones to go wrong. They are even shaped larger than they rest on their necks.

The headphones also have a nice long cord, but are a little too thin and can easily snap if it comes on the wheels of your chair or something like that. The padding on both the earcup and headband is nice and soft and the headphones are comfortable enough to wear even in long gaming sessions. In terms of weight too, the HyperX Cloud Stinger S is lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy even after hours of use.

Now the audio quality on the HyperX Cloud Stinger S is decent, but not consistent in terms of the device you’re using it for. For example, the headphones were very loud when used with a PC and smartphone. However, on PlayStation 4, the headphones’ max audio isn’t quite as loud. Make no mistake, it’s not the quality of the audio, how fast it can get, and on PlayStation 4, it’s not quite as fast as it is on a smartphone or PC.

HyperX Cloud Stinger S comes with 7.1 surround sound and comes with Synaptics AudioSmart. The headphones also come with TeamSpeak certification. team speak There is a VoIP communication system for online gaming. The headset has 50mm drivers with neodymium magnets and offers a frequency range of 18Hz-23kHz. Audio performance on headphones is good. The fluctuations are quite clear and the audio isn’t bass-heavy. In games, the sound is clear and in the case of games like Call of Duty, PUBG, and the likes, it does a good job of identifying where the sound is coming from. Volume controls also give users the ability to adjust the volume without having to fiddle with the device they’re connected to. However, the slider seems a bit loose. Gamers like a little feedback, so the slightly tight slider fits well with gamers. However, this is not a big deal as it is easy to get used to.

The headphones don’t offer any sort of noise cancellation, but the padding does a good job of keeping out extraneous noise. However, given that the headphones are huge, the earcups don’t always block out extraneous noise. However, the sound from the headphones is well separated in all respects. Placing them on the neck gives users an idea of how loud the HyperX Cloud Stinger S can get (on PCs and smartphones, according to our testing).

The microphone on the HyperX Cloud Stinger S comes with noise cancellation. The mic picks up noise as low as -40dBV and does a good job of clearing up your voice during online gaming sessions. However, in some cases, I did experience slight discomfort during voice chat while gaming. Overall, this is a good mic and delivers a certain level of clarity. There are a few instances when it catches disturbances, but in general does a good job of isolating noise.

While it may not be the best option, the HyperX Cloud Stinger S gaming headphones are in line with the market leaders in its price range. (Image credit: News18 / Darab Mansoor Ali)

The HyperX Cloud Stinger S is a set of traditional mid-range gaming headphones that don’t offer anything outlandish like active noise cancellation or smart features like 3D sound. But here’s the thing – they’re not made for these kinds of things. They are made for gaming and such quirky features are considered useless to most gamers. What gamers demand is a good, comfortable fit, a good mic, a long cord, and good audio that helps them capture minimal details while playing the game. The HyperX Cloud Stinger S does this very well. While not the best in the market in the range, with some great options. Do the headphones cost Rs 5,990? Yes, but given the bulky design and lack of fancy features, many would prefer to look elsewhere. We recommend the Asus TUF H3 Gun Metal Gaming Headset which costs Rs 3,850 on Amazon and has more features like fast-cooling ear cushion, built-in software for easy customization of EQ. These are also made with more premium materials such as memory foam with 100% protein leather ear cups and a stainless-steel headband. Another option to look at in the same range is the Logitech G431 which offers similar features to the HyperX Cloud Stinger S and costs Rs 4,995.
