Hyderabad gang rape case: Police gets custody of adult accused

A local court on Wednesday granted the police custody of an adult accused in the sensational juvenile gang rape case in Hyderabad after authorities sought the custody of five other accused – all minors. Anand had said that stringent sections of the law have been imposed against those involved in the heinous crime and the punishment under these sections could be life imprisonment or death sentence, he had said. He said the gang rape took place in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), which appears to be an official vehicle.

Asked about the political links in the case and whether the accused were children of any VIP, including the AIMIM MLA, he had said that this conclusion has to be given to the media persons and this information cannot be disclosed as the accused are minors. Meanwhile, the opposition Congress and BJP on Wednesday slammed the TRS government over the alleged increase in cases of crimes against women and minor girls in the state and other law and order issues.

State Congress President and MP A Revanth Reddy demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao review the issues related to rape, drugs cases and pubs in the city and take steps to investigate such incidents. Alleging that there have been law and order incidents on an almost daily basis during the last fortnight, state BJP president and Lok Sabha member Bandi Sanjay Kumar has not yet responded to the issue of gangrape of a teenage girl allegedly by the Chief Minister. objected.
