Doctors at a leading hospital in Hyderabad have announced that they have removed a record 156 kidney stones by opening the keyhole of a 50-year-old patient. The patient, who is reportedly now healthy and has returned to his regular routine, had come from Hubli and was admitted to Preeti Urology and Kidney Hospital.

The patient, Basavaraj Madivalar, a school teacher by profession, had a sudden pain near his abdomen, and the screening showed the presence of a large cluster of kidney stones (kidney stones).

Doctors said the patient was also a case of ectopic kidney, as it was located near his abdomen instead of its normal position in the urinary tract. “Although the presence of a kidney in an abnormal location is not a problem, removing an abnormal kidney stone was certainly a challenging task,” a statement issued by the hospital said.

“This patient must have been developing these stones for more than two years, but never experienced any symptoms in the past.
