Hyderabad: Doctor sought help from ‘astrologer’ for examination, lost money

Hyderabad: A city-based woman doctor, who had sought astrology’s help to clear the Compulsory Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), was allegedly duped of around Rs 80,000 by fraudsters on social media.

The doctor, who hails from Kondapur, completed her MBBS and was preparing to crack FMGE for more than a year. To clear the exam, he decided to take the help of astrology and started searching online. According to cybercrime officials, she found a Facebook profile named Vishwajit Jha and contacted the person using the phone number given.

“The person on the other side assured to help her clear the exam with the help of puja and some rituals and she agreed. She initially paid some money for the ritual and appeared for the exam but failed to clear it,” said K Balakrishna Reddy, ACP (cyber crime), Cyberabad. When he asked them about the result, they were told about the need to perform other rituals this time for better results.

“Trusting them, he paid Rs 70,000 in two installments to the bank account provided. However, even after making the payment, she failed to clear the exam for the second time as well. They kept demanding more money in the guise of other pujas when he felt that he was being cheated,” Reddy said.

Based on his complaint, Cyberabad Cyber ​​Crime Police has registered a case and started investigation.
