Haryana State Human Rights Commission

The Haryana State Human Rights Commission has adopted a strict approach in the case of sexual harassment of 40 girl students of about two and a half years old. In the order issued by the chairperson of the commission, Justice SK Mittal, it has been written that even on such a serious matter related to girl students, the education department is sitting as deaf and dumb. Time has been given till August 17 to submit a report on this entire matter. Even before this, the commission has given three dates for sending the report to the department, but the officials of the department did not send the report. Now a final warning of action has also been given in case the report is not sent on time.

The case is of December 2019, the matter of sexual harassment of 40 girl students in a government school in Adampur block of Hisar district had come to the fore. A girl student had consumed poison. The then Child Protection Officer Sunita Yadav had reached the school to investigate the matter. In front of him 40 girl students of the school had spoken against the three teachers of the school and the SMC chief for sexually harassing them.

The girl students had alleged that the school teachers touch them in wrong places, forcefully show them pornographic videos. Apart from this, they also molest them by calling them in private. After the matter came to the notice, the department had transferred the entire school staff and appointed women teachers here with immediate effect.

On the complaint of Sunita Yadav, a case was registered against the accused at Adampur police station and three accused teachers were arrested. Presently the matter is pending in the court. The State Human Rights Commission has sought a report thrice in this matter. Now again giving time till August 17, the Commission has written a final warning in the remarks. In the order issued by the commission’s chairperson Justice SK Mittal, it has been written that the education department is sitting as dumb and deaf on such a serious subject related to girl students. It is surprising that what kind of officers are working in the department, who do not care about the orders of the commission. Bringing the entire matter to the notice of the Chief Secretary, the Commission has also warned of action against the Director of Secondary Education and the Additional Chief Secretary of the department.
