A BMI between the range of 18.5 and 24.9 is regarded to be ideal. People with a BMI between 25 to 29.9 are considered to be overweight. Having a BMI above 30 is a sign of obesity.

However, many doctors believe that BMI is not an accurate indicator of body fat and should not be dependent on too much. The doctors say that the Body Mass Index was not developed by a health professional or a biologist, but rather by a mathematician.

Body weight cannot be calculated through factors like muscle mass, bone density, body composition, race and gender. According to the experts, the focus should be on fitness rather than the mentioned calculators. Here is the ideal weight of a person according to their height:

4 feet 10 inches – 41 kg to 52 kg

5 feet- 44 kg to 55.7 kg

5 feet 2 inches – 49 kg to 63 kg

5 ft 4 inches – 51 kg to 65 kg

5 ft 6 inches – 53 kg to 67 kg

5 feet 8 inches – 56 kg to 71 kg

6 feet – 63 kg and 80 kg
