A popular browser based word puzzle game known as Wordle witnesses a meteoric rise amid the pandemic. For those who don’t know, it is a game in which you have to correctly guess a pre-selected word by making random word guesses and taking help of the hints. Invented by software engineer Josh Wardle, the game was recently acquired by the New York Times. Surprisingly, the game also saved the life of an 80-year old woman in the US. As reported by Mashable, an old woman Denyse Holt was held hostage by a man for 17 hours in her own house. The captor entered the woman’s room in Chicago, Illinois when she was in her bed. The woman was rescued thanks to Wordle.
According to Mashable, Holt and her daughter had a daily practice of sharing the day’s World answer everyday. The daughter, who lives in Seattle, suspected something was wrong and contacted the police when she didn’t receive the Wordle answer from her mother that day. The police investigated the complaint of Holt’s daughter and found out that the woman had been held hostage. As reported by the New York Post, the cops noticed a broken window and caught the intruder after some resistance. The intruder was later identified as 32-year-old James H. Davis III.

To play the World game online, just type in ‘wordle’ as a search query on the search engine you use and its website will appear. You don’t need to download the game. Wordle is like a crossword and can only be played once a day. Every 24 hours there’s a new word of the day, and it’s up to you to figure it out. Wordle gives players six chances to guess a randomly selected five-letter word.
