How this new rivalry between Google, Apple and Microsoft could emerge – Times of India

While we are used to seeing throttling competition in the smartphone market, the pc market – in comparison – is relatively less intense. But if a new report from Canalys is to be believed, that could soon change and we could see a bigger rivalry than “it’s been a long time” in the PC market.
Canalis report claims that GoogleU.S. Chromebooks outperformed the rest of the industry product categories, posting 75% annual growth and shipment volume of 11.9 million units in the second quarter of 2021.
All Chromebook sellers have doubled down on stealing investments because they’re seeing strong returns.
“The success of Chromebooks is proving to be remarkably resilient,” said Brian Lynch, research analyst at Canalys. “Their growth streak has extended even beyond the height of the pandemic as they consolidated a healthy position across all end-user segments in the industry,” he said.
The report says that Chromebook’s growth in the coming year does not see any hindrance as it has a stronghold in the education sector and is set to bet big on the commercial segment this year.
The PC market is set to get more competitive
However, it’s not just Google that is putting its best foot forward in the PC market. Apple has recently introduced its exclusive chipset – the M1 – for the MacBook lineup and has all plans to slowly and steadily transform its portfolio.
At the same time, Microsoft has also unveiled a brand new version of Windows – called Windows 11 – after a six-year hiatus bringing a new design and new features.
“With Apple expanding its M1 success into the commercial space and Microsoft launching Windows 11 later this year, the race for PC OS is set to be the hottest competition,” Lynch said.
