Dhanush’s second directorial venture Raayan, which also starred himself in the lead role, was released on July 26 to mixed critical response but was a box office success, earning Rs 158 crore. Now the producer of Raayan, Kalanithi Maran, who produced the film under his Sun Pictures Banner, has congratulated actor-director Dhanush for the phenomenal commercial success of the film.
The producer personally met Dhanush and handed him over two cheques, as a gift for the success of the film. The official handle of Sun Pictures posted a photo of Kalanithi Maran handing over the cheques to Dhanush with the caption, “Mr Kalanithi Maran congratulated Dhanush or the grand success of Raayan and presented 2 cheques to him – one for the hero and one for the director.”
While the plot and the second half of the film received some criticism, Dhanush’s performance as well as the overall direction of the film received unanimous acclaim from viewers and critics alike. Raayan narrates the story of a fast-food hotel owner in North Chennai, who begins to protect his family when they inadvertently get muddled in a war between two rival gangs. The film also stars Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Aparna Balamurali, Selvaraghavan, and Saravanan. The film will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on August 23.
Dhanush will soon be seen in the trilingual film Kubera. He will also appear in a yet untitled project opposite his Thiruchitrambalam co-star Nithya Menen. The actress confirmed the news in an interview with Zoom TV and also revealed that Dhanush will be directing the film, making the project Dhanush’s third as a filmmaker.
