Sources said that despite the ongoing political tussle between the central government and the AAP-led Punjab government, there was a consensus that pro-Khalistan sentiments should not float around.

When the Central Armed Police Forces were asked to be deployed in Punjab after a meeting between Home Ministry and state government officials, it became clear that the Center would crack down on Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh after the G20 meeting in Amritsar.

According to sources, even though there is a political tussle between the central government and the AAP-led Punjab government, there was a general consensus that pro-Khalistan sentiments should not float around as it threatens the country’s security and development.

Sources said that in a meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann not to tolerate this in future. Soon after the meeting, around 35 companies including eight companies of Rapid Action Force were sent to Punjab to maintain law and order situation in the state.

Sources said that central intelligence agencies were asked to gather ground-level intelligence. Soon after the scheduled G20 event was over in Punjab and flagged off by plainclothes officers on the ground, teams of Punjab Police were dispatched to nab Amritpal, while central forces were deployed to tackle Jallupur Kheda village and other key areas. was deployed for. The sources further said that initially the Central Armed Police Forces were deployed for 10 days, which was extended for a few more days to maintain the law and order situation. According to a senior official, the RAF and other companies will assist the local police till the state is able to control the situation.

Forces have been deployed in various areas mainly around Amritsar to maintain law and order. The Intelligence Bureau has been asked to collect inputs from Punjab at frequent intervals.

The situation with internet services in Punjab is tense as the Punjab Police is close to Amritpal. Some others, who are reportedly close to the hardline leader, were also arrested from Jalandhar on Saturday. A police official said that internet service has been snapped across the state till Sunday afternoon.
