Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of five railway stations in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai Egmore, Rameswaram, Madurai, Katpadi and Kanyakumari, in a move towards promoting infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity and giving a boost to ease. To stay in the step zone. PM Modi will dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone for 11 projects totaling over Rs 31,500 crore in Chennai.

These projects will help to significantly improve the socio-economic prosperity in the region, have a transformative impact on many sectors and will also help in generating employment opportunities.

In Chennai, PM Modi will dedicate five projects worth over Rs 2960 crore to the nation.

The 75 km long Madurai-Theni (Railway Gauge Conversion Project), has been built at a project cost of over Rs. 500 crore, will facilitate access and boost tourism in the region. The 30 km long third railway line between Tambaram-Chengalpattu with a project cost of Rs. 590 crore, will facilitate running of more suburban services, thus providing more options and increasing the comfort for the commuters.

The 115 km long Ennore-Chengalpattu section and the 271 km long Tiruvallur-Bengaluru section of the ETBPNMT natural gas pipeline, costing approx Rs. The project has been built at a cost of Rs. Rs 850 crore and Rs 910 crore respectively, will facilitate supply of natural gas to consumers as well as industries in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The 262-km-long Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will be constructed at a cost of over crores of rupees. 14,870 crores. It will pass through the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and will help reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai by 2-3 hours. The 4-lane double-decker elevated road connecting Chennai Port with Maduravoyal (NH-4), with a length of about 21 km, will be built at a cost of over Rs 5850 crore. This will facilitate round the clock access of goods vehicles to Chennai Port. The 94 km long Neraluru to Dharmapuri section of NH-844 and the 31 km long 2 lane with paved shoulders of Meensurutty to Chidambaram section of NH-227 are being constructed at a cost of Rs 3870 crore and Rs 720 respectively. This will help in providing seamless connectivity in the area.

The foundation stone for the redevelopment of five railway stations Chennai Egmore, Rameswaram, Madurai, Katpadi and Kanyakumari will also be laid during the programme. The project will be completed at a cost of over Rs 1 crore. 1800 crores, and is being aimed at enhancing the convenience and comfort of the passengers through the provision of modern facilities.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of a Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Chennai worth approximately Rs. 1430 crores. It will provide seamless intermodal freight movement and will also provide a range of functionality.

The event will also see the inauguration of 1152 houses constructed as part of the Light House Project-Chennai constructed at a cost of Rs 116 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban.
